We had to model a 4 legged creature for class.. So I did a Tapir. Such a silly little animal. Not really finished as you see.. No ears or tail. Rather low poly I guess.. But then again it's not finished!! Was very careful to make sure all the polys were quads! I hear that's important, or something!
For those of you that don't know what a Tapir is.. Well then [link]
Keeping a model (especially one that's going to end up hi-res) in quads is good for when it's mesh smoothed and so forth - allows for efficent and more accurate calculations, and it also helps for when you have to deal with UV-mapping and unwrapping. So yeah, keep it up. It's looking good so far.
quads morph easier then tris I think, either that or they just render differently I dunno, tri's didnt seem to kill my trex that much, though he wasnt a very life like rex :C
You're right about that. Triangles, or anything else not quads make the computer work significantly harder to render out and process. Plus it will get difficult when you paint weights on during the rigging stage.

Now it's time for August 2008 Visual Art Features, many new art to discover!
Don't forget that many artists need to be viewed, they deserve it! Fave Fave Fave! My main purpose in doing a monthly feature about (to my point of view) 'the best visual art' is to put in the same level as well wellknown artists and popular creations as unknown artists and under-exposed creations. Artists need to be supported. So don't be shy!
Here's the Menu per Category :
